Type 95 Ha-Go Light Tank

Le Type 95 accueillait un équipage de 3 hommes dont le pilote et le mitrailleur de caisse (aussi le mécanicien de bord). Le pilote était assis à droite dans le compartiment central, son poste faisait une saillie arrondie sur l'avant de la superstructure. La partie avant de cette saillie était montée sur charnière et pouvait être levée. Elle était munie d'une petite fenêtre de vision montée sur une charnière et d'une fente de vision. Le mitrailleur était de fait assis à gauche du pilote. Son poste faisait également saillie (angulaire cependant) à l'avant du compartiment. La mitrailleuse de 7.7 mm Type 97 (à l'origine une 6.5 mm Type 91) ornait cette saillie.

Type 95 accomodated a crew of 3 men of which the driver and the bow machine gunner (also the mechanic). The driver had sat on the right in the central compartment, his station made a rounded projection on the front part of the superstructure. The front part of this projection was assembled on hinge and could be raised. It was provided with a small window of vision assembled on a hinge and a slit of vision. The machine gunner was in fact sitted on the left of the driver. Its station made also projection (angular however) on the front part of the superstructure. The machine-gun of 7.7 mm Type 97 (at the origin one 6.5 mm Type 91) equiped this projection.

Le nez du char accueillait la transmission manuelle à cinq vitesses (4/1) et les commandes finales qui actionnaient les deux barbotins avants qui faisaient tourner les deux chenilles. Pour virer, il fallait freiner sur une des deux chenilles, de manière tout à fait classique. Deux trappes montées sur charnières sur le glacis permettaient d'atteindre l'ensemble pour la maintenance. Le glacis était munis de deux phares et une boucle de remorquage garnissait la plaque frontale du nez.

The nose of the tank accomodated the manual transmission with five speeds (4/1) and the final commands which actuated the two front sprocket-wheels which made turn the two tracks. To turn, it was necessary to slow down on one of the two tracks, in a completely traditional way. Two hatches assembled on hinges on the glacis allowed to reach the group for maintenance. The glacis was provided with two headlights and a loop of towing furnished the frontal plate of the nose.

Le dernier membre d'équipage, le commandant-canonnier-chargeur et mitrailleur (!!!) prenait place dans la petite tourelle montée sur la gauche du compartiment central. L'accès se faisait via la coupole circulaire sur le toit. Cette tourelle disposait de fentes de vision. L'aspect de cette tourelle était assez difforme à l'arrière. L'arrière de la tourelle accueillait une petite trappe montée sur charnière (pour le chargement des munitions et l'évacuation des douilles) et une mitrailleuse de 7.7 mm Type 97.

The last crewmember, the commander-gunner-loader and machine gunner (!!!) took seat in the small turret assembled on the left of the central compartment. The access was done via the circular cupola on the roof. This turret had slits of vision. The aspect of this turret was rather deformed at the back. The back of the turret accomodated a small hatch assembled on hinge (for the loading of the ammunition and evacuation of the casings) and a machine-gun of 7.7 mm Type 97.

Cependant l'arme principale était un canon de 37 mm Type 94/98. Les premiers modèles possédaient une vélocité initiale de 700 m/s (Type 94) pour 800 m/s sur les derniers modèles (Type 98). Le commandant, le pauvre, était responsable du chargement, du pointage et de la mise à feu du canon en plus de sa mission de chef de char et parfois de mitrailleur. Le Ha-Go mettait à feu des obus perforants ou explosifs. La rotation de la tourelle était manuelle et cette dernière ne pouvait pivoter que sur un arc avant de 45° (d'où la mitrailleuse arrière).

However the main armament was a gun of 37 mm Type 94/98. The first models had an initial muzzle velocity of 700 m/s (Type 94) for 800 m/s on the last models (Type 98). The commander, the poor one, was responsible for the loading, the aiming and the firing of the gun in addition to his mission of chief of tank and sometimes of machine gunner. The Ha-Go put at fire of the piercing or explosive rounds. The rotation of the turret was manual and the latter could swivel only on one frontal arc of 45° (the cause of the back machine-gun).
