Le char léger Type 2 Ke-To (Ke pour Keto (léger) - To (Sept)) est une version amélioré du Type 98 Ke-Ni. Comme le Type 95 Ha-Go, le Type 98 était tout à fait suffisant pour combattre les forces chinoises qui manquaient d'armes anti-chars et de chars. Cependant ces deux chars n'étaient pas compétitifs face aux chars américains. C'est pourquoi le développement de cette version plus puissante fut initié à la fin de 1942. Comme pour le Type 98, le Type 2 souffrit du manque d'acier disponible en raison de la priorité donnée à la construction navale et la mise ne production fut sans cesse retardée. Lors du début de celle-ci en 1944, les installations industrielles japonaises étaient en triste état en raison des bombardements américains et les pénuries en matériels et matériaux étaient pandémiques. Pour ces raisons, seulement 34 exemplaires purent être produits.

The light tank Type 2 Ke-To (Ke for Keto (light) - To (Seven)) is a version improved of Type 98 Ke-Ni. Like the Type 95 Ha-Go, Type 98 were completely sufficient to fight the Chinese forces which missed of anti-tank weapons and tanks. However these two tanks were not competitive vis-a-vis the American tanks. It's why the development of this more powerful version was initiated at the end of 1942. As for Type 98, Type 2 suffered from the lack of steel available because of the priority given to naval construction and the start of production was unceasingly delayed. At the time of the beginning of this one in 1944, the Japanese industrial facilities were in sad state because of the American bombardments and the shortages in materials were pandemic. For these reasons, only 34 specimens could be produced.

La principale modification par rapport le Type 98 fut l'adoption du canon de 37 mm Type 1. Ce canon plus puissant avait une vélocité initiale de 810 m/s. Pour installer ce canon, la tourelle fut élargie et devint plus cylindrique.

Le Type 2 ut à l'origine développé comme char léger aéroporté pouvant être transporté par planeurs pour fournir un support blindé aux forces spéciales et aux parachutistes (comme le Tetrarch britannique et le Locust américain). Aucun des 34 exemplaires ne fut déployé dans le Pacifique, l'armée japonaise ne possédant plus de capacités offensives. Seulement quelques unités furent complétées et assignées aux division d'infanterie protégeant l'archipel japonais contre une invasion qui ne vint jamais. La fin de la guerre arriva sans que Type 2 ne puisse être utilisé au combat.

The principal modification by report Type 98 was adoption of the gun of 37 mm Type 1. This more powerful gun had an initial muzzle velocity of 810 m/s. To install this gun, the turret was widened and became more cylindrical.

The Type 2 at the origin was developed like light airborne tank being able to be transported by sailplanes to provide a armored support to the special forces and to the parachutists (like British Tetrarch and American Locust). None of the 34 specimens was deployed in the Pacific, because Japanese army not having more offensive capacities. Only a few units were created and assigned to division of infantry protecting Japanese archipelago against an invasion which never came. The end of the war arrived without Type 2 was used in combat.
