Sturmpanzer Bär

En début mai de 1942, les décideurs allemands envisagèrent la conception d'un nouveau Sturmpanzer lourd, le Bär (ours). Début 1943, Krupp proposa donc un nouveau Sturmgeschütz armé du mortier lourd de 305 mm L/16. Les premiers schémas furent prêts mai de la même année. Le mortier de 305 mm sur ces dessins était monté dans une superstructure arrière sur châssis modifié de Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf.E Tiger II comprenant également quelques composants de Panther et une nouvelle suspension développée par Krupp. Le poids estimé d'un tel engin environnait les 120 tonnes. Le mortier de 305 mm KwK L/16 possédait une portée maximale de 10.500 m et une élévation variant entre 0 et 70°. Il ne possédait pas à ma connaissance de champ de tir horizontal. Le mortier qui mettait à feu des projectiles de 50 kg, n'avait une provision que de 10 projectiles de 305 mm.

At the beginning of May of 1942, the German decision makers considered the design of new heavy Sturmpanzer, Bär (bear). At the beginning of 1943, Krupp thus proposed new Sturmgeschütz armed with the heavy mortar of 305 mm L/16. The first diagrams were ready May of the same year. The mortar of 305 mm on these drawings was assembled in a back superstructure on modified chassis of Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf.E Tiger II also including some components of Panther and a new suspension developed by Krupp. The weight of such a machine estimated surrounded the 120 tons. The mortar of 305 mm KwK L/16 had a maximum range of 10.500 m and an elevation varying between 0 and 70°. It did not have to my knowledge of horizontal field of fire. The mortar which fired projectiles of 50 kg, had a provision only of 10 projectiles of 305 mm.

Pour la propulsion on pensa utilisé un moteur diesel (monté au centre) produisant 1050 cv, assurant sur route une vitesse maximum de 20km/h. Les dimensions du Bär était de 8,2 mètres en longueur, de 4,1 mètres en largeur et de 3,5 mètres en hauteur. Ce sturmpanzer lourd possédait un blindage incliné épais de 90mm sur les côtés et de 130mm à l'avant. L'équipage prévu était de six hommes: le commandant, le tireur, deux chargeurs, le conducteur et le radio-opérateur. Cependant le projet ne dépassa jamais le stade de l'ébauche et fut remplacé par celui du Sturmpanzer VI ou Sturmtiger.

For the propulsion one thought used a Diesel engine (mounted in the center) producing 1050 hp, ensuring on road a maximum speed of 20km/h. Dimensions of Bär was 8.2 meters in length, 4.1 meters in width and 3.5 meters in height. This heavy sturmpanzer had a tilted shielding thick of 90mm on the sides and 130 mm on the front parts. The crew envisaged was of six men: the commander, the gunner, two loaders, the driver and the radio-operator. However the project never exceeded the stage of the outline and was replaced by that of Sturmpanzer VI or Sturmtiger.
