T27 Armored Car

En janvier 1943, le Special Armored Vehicle Board émis les spécifications pour de nouveaux véhicules blindés à roues. La firme Studebaker reçut ainsi la commande d' un prototype à 8 roues pesant dans les 7 tonnes sous le nom de projet T27.

In January 1943, Special Armored Vehicle Board emitted specifications for new armoured vehicle with wheels. The Studebaker firm thus accepted the ordering of a prototype with 8 wheels weighing in the 7 tons under the name of T27 project.

 

T27 Heavy Armored Car

 

Les 8 roues devaient être indépendantes et montées sur des barres de torsion un peu comme les modèles lourds allemands (Sd.Kfz.234). Cependant seuls des trois dernières paires étaient motrices, la première ne servant qu' à donner la direction. Le T27 était équipé d' une tourelle ouverte au dessus, armée du canon de 37 mm. Le canon de 37 mm M6 avait une longueur de 56 calibres et une vitesse initiale variant entre 776 et 884 m/s. Le canon de 37 mm pouvait transpercer 48 mm de blindage sous 30° à 500 m. Le bloc de culasse du M6 était semi-automatique.

The 8 wheels were to be independent and mounted on torsion bars, a little like the German heavy models (Sd.Kfz.234). However only the three last pairs were driving, the first being used only to give the steering. T27 was equipped with a turret open to the top, armed with the gun of 37 mm. The gun of 37 mm M6 had a length of 56 calibers and an initial speed varying between 776 and 884 m/s. The gun of 37 mm could transpierce 48 mm of shielding under 30° to 500 m. It fired only perforating projectiles. The gun had a full traverse of 360° and an elevation of 45° and a depression of 10°. The breech-block of M6 was semi-automatic.

Le prototype fut finalisé au début 1944 et testé contre le T28 et le M8. Le T28 démontra être un véhicule supérieur au T27 qui n' était de plus guère supérieur au M8. Le développement de ce véhicule plutôt réussi fut donc finalement stoppé en juillet 1944.

The prototype was finalized at the beginning of 1944 and was tested against T28 and M8. T28 showed being a vehicle higher than T27 which was moreover hardly higher than M8. The development of this vehicle rather successful was thus finally stopped in July 1944.
