The experimental Dr.II was ordered in late 1917 by Idflieg for testing the new 195 hp Benz Bz.IIIb V8 powerplant in a special triplane configuration. During the second fighter competition at Adlershof the Albatros Dr.II failed to make an appearance. Only the single prototype was build.
